Maryborough Art Society Winter Workshops
Tuesday June 26th to Sunday July 1st 2012
Versatile Acrylics
with Lizzie Connor
The Workshop
This workshop will entice fellow artists to push their personal boundaries, and the boundaries of the acrylic medium and discover the versatility of acrylic paint - from the thick, buttery textures for a landscape, or any other, format to the transparent and delicate glazes and washes needed for those subtle areas of colour or shadow.
The workshop will also look at colour theory and colour schemes - what are warm and cool colours, and how and where are they used. What are colour schemes - find out which one or ones resonate with you in your art practice. As a group we will explore developing seascapes, landscapes, and forms of still life by working over red underpainting and building up images in layers, which will enrich the depth and energy of the final image.
The emphasis will be on being a little bit adventurous, freeing your creative self up, and seeing how this process impacts on your work.
Above all it is about the enjoyment of the creative processes and the discoveries made along the way whilst working on traditional landscape, seascape and still life forms - executed with a dash of excitement and energy, and of course buckets of fun - which is really important.
The tutor will complete daily demonstrations.
The Tutor
Originally from Sorrento in Victoria, I have lived in many places around Australia, including Western Australia, and the Coffs Harbour area for many years, moving to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in 1996, and now Peregian Beach.
During my time living in Coffs Harbour, as well as the Sunshine Coast I have worked as an art tutor with children, adults and people with disabilities. I have worked as an art tutor/youth worker in flexible education programs and government youth programs, both with at "at risk" youth, using art as a tool of engagement as well as a powerful therapeutic tool for marginalized young people. I have held many one day workshops in Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Redcliffe as well as tutoring at Grafton Artsfest in 2001, Griffith Flavourtech Exposed Art Event, June 2009 and Grafton Artsfest in October 2009. I also conduct regular workshops both with groups and individuals on the Sunshine Coast. I have won a large number of awards in South East Queensland, from the Capricorn Coast to Brisbane and out to the South Burnett at various exhibitions.
I have worked as a supervisor with several Work for the Dole public art projects from 2000 to 2003 in the Cooloola/Gympie and South Burnett areas, developing and co-ordinating and completing murals on many and varied structures, as well as privately commissioned murals. I am also a qualified Youth Worker and Trainer, and the holder of a Blue Card for Working with Children and Young People. I work and teach in various mediums, including acrylic, oil, gouache, charcoal, pastel and mixed media. I also teach at all levels of skill, and all ages.
