The Workshop
The Passage of Light with Pastel
The four major subjects Still life, Portraiture, Life Drawing and Landscape all in pastel. We shall be studying the passage of light across all these subjects following Tonal Impressionism, which is about understanding what we see reduced to its most simple form.
Day 1& 2 -Still life
Two days spent on your own unique still life. Decide what it is that is close to your heart at the moment and bring those things along. (At least 3 objects) The image alone should sustain your interest for the next two days which will be about learning what it is that you see. We shall be considering Placement, Lighting, Composition, Line, Form, Colour and above all tone.
Day 3 -Portraiture
Pastel is perfect for portrait A day of portrait painting using live models. Hone the skills picked up in the previous two days and apply them to what is considered The Highest Principle
Day 4 -Life Drawing
A full day of drawing and painting the nude figure. Using charcoal, pastel pencils and pastel, and by using a series of dynamic exercises the fun will continue throughout this very demanding day.
Day 5 -Landscape
A day of excitement and variety. Partly spent painting en plein air in the morning if weather permits and in the afternoon we shall continue our work using photographs and discussing the use of photography and how best it can be used successfully within our work.
Day 6 - A day spent finishing and refining the skills learned during the previous 5 days for each students particular favourite subject.
All lessons within the classroom will be accompanied by regular demonstrations.
